What does a Nursery Assistant do?
As a Nursery Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting children through their most important early years – helping them learn, grow, and thrive. You’ll be part of the foundation of each child’s learning journey, nurturing their well-being and encouraging their development through fun, creative, and inclusive activities.
Your responsibilities may include:

Childcare – Maintaining a safe, clean, and stimulating environment where children are emotionally and physically supported. Providing day-to-day care such as feeding, rest times, and toilet training.

Education – Delivering age-appropriate activities that encourage exploration, independence, and early learning across cognitive, physical, and social development.

Parental Communication – Building strong relationships with parents and updating them on their child’s progress and daily experiences.

Administration – Monitoring and maintaining detailed recordings each child’s development in line with Ofsted guidelines.

What you need to register as a Nursery Assistant with Jane Lewis
To start working in a Nursery Assistant role with Jane Lewis, you’ll need:
- To be over the age of 18
- At least six months of UK care experience
- The right to work in the UK (we are unable to provide sponsorship)
- A valid enhanced DBS (If you don’t have one, we can help you apply and we’ll cover the cost!)
- Have excellent communication skills and knowledge of the sector
- A minimum of a Level 2/3 Early Years Qualification or equivelant
- Have a genuine passion working in the childcare sector
