The Art of Nursing: Yetunde’s Journey

Like many, I didn’t start out in the healthcare industry...

Back in 2001, I graduated with a degree in Business Administration and began a career in the corporate world, working across telecommunications, housing, and banking. But in 2013, I took a break. I had gone through my own fertility journey, and it sparked something in me, meaning that I wanted to give back and to support others in the way that I had been supported.

This decision led me down a completely new path. At 35, after 13 years away from education, I went back to university to study Adult Nursing at Anglia Ruskin. I knew nursing would allow me to diversify my career while making a difference. I graduated with my degree in September 2017.

I had placements in a wide range of clinical settings, from theatres and recovery units to neurology, cardiac, dialysis, and community services. These experiences helped shape me into a confident and compassionate nurse.

My first job and preceptorship were on the Cornflower B Ward – the Early Pregnancy Emergency Unit. Sadly, I had to leave just a few months in, due to my son’s medical condition, so we relocated from London to Kent.

Since then, my nursing journey has been anything but linear. I had taken on a number of permanent roles, balancing my career with my responsibilities as a mum, but had to resign due to family reasons.

With Jane Lewis I have gained experienced in lots of different settings. I also really love the free training provided, which has been a huge benefit to my career. Not to mention the competitive pay rates that are paid weekly. This has definitely helped me to manage my finances better.

Looking ahead, I hope to take a management and leadership course to develop my career further.
